About the Author

Angelia D. Nelson is on a crusade. The future of our children is her passion. Her driving mission is to positively affect the lives of urban youth who have suffered from inadequate schooling, a lack of parental guidance, poverty, and neighborhoods infested with violence and drugs.

This former Tuskegee University women’s basketball head coach has more than 20 years of experience working with underprivileged children. She is currently working with three-time USA Olympian and professional basketball player Dawn Staley, creating quality academic, cultural and sport programs for inner-city children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Angelia was born and raised in Garysburg, North Carolina, and is the youngest of four children. She received her undergraduate degree from Elizabeth City State University, Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and a master’s degree in sport administration from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida. She also earned a doctorate degree from Florida State University in Sport Administration.

Angelia wrote “The Ghetto Is Not My Final Destination” to provide young people around the world with motivating and insightful information to assist them on their journey to securing a brighter future.
